Marvelman/Miracleman

First of all, we'd like to welcome a new member to the blog, Buddha Rex who is an old junior school buddy of Bhuna.

As Buddha is new we thought it would be nice for him to choose Octobers character and he chose Marvelman who is now known as Miracleman (it's very complicated.)

I won't bore you with the politics of who owned the rights to the character, because it's very complicated.... but!

The original Marvelman was created by Mike Anglo, and was a basic rip off of DCs Captain Marvel, who was a rip off of Superman.

Marvelman was revamped by the genius that is Alan Moore and was featured in one of the best UK anthology publications called Warrior. If you want to read more about the to-ing and fro-ing of the who owned the character pop of to Wikipedia.

Next months character who has been chosen by JLF is 2000ad's manic headbutter supreme, the one, the only MEAN MACHINE ANGEL

On with the art!

"This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face." - Rorschach

Before we show Septembers entries, we have a few congratulations in order. Firstly congratulations to Incident Report on his recent marriage and to Bhuna and his wife Kim who have celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.

Oki-doki, on with the show....

Septembers character has been chosen by Tinrobot and has recently  been voted one of the best top 20 comic book characters of all time. For a character that was only created in the mid-eighties, that isn't half bad going!

With opening lines such as "This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper "No." it's no surprise!!

Rorschach was created by Alan Moor and Dave Gibbons for Watchmen and was based on Steve Ditko's Mr A where everything was either er black or white/innocent or guilty, there was no in-between.

One with the art!

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No... it's

Superman was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, high school students living in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1933; the character was sold to Detective Comics, Inc. (later DC Comics) in 1938. Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938) A recent, highly-graded copy of the fabled comic-book sold at auction for around $2 million!!

The entries have been a bit light this months, but never mind. We are expecting another two entries later on. A 'well done' really needs to go out to Mark1up, who has really risen to the challenge this month. Nice one Mark1up!

Next months character is TBA as Tin Robot is currently on holiday.
