Strontium Dog

April's character has been chosen by TinRobot and is Johnny Alpha - Strontium Dog

The series was created by writer John Wagner (under the pseudonym T. B. Grover) and artist Carlos Ezquerra for Starlord, a short-lived weekly science fiction comic, in 1978. When Starlord was cancelled the series transferred to 2000 AD. In 1980 Wagner was joined by co-writer Alan Grant, although scripts were normally credited to Grant alone.

The most famous and respected of the Strontium Dogs is Johnny Alpha, whose mutant eyes allow him to see through walls and read minds. He is responsible for such legendary achievements as destroying the Wolrog homeworld, leading the mutant uprising on Earth, and bringing Adolf Hitler to the future to face trial. His legendary career and his assistance to mutants in trouble - such as donating a large sum of money to the Milton Keynes ghetto in "Mutie's Luck" - has made him an icon to Earth's mutants. He is a highly skilled and dangerous fighter.

The next character is Namor - The Submariner and have been chosen by Buddha Rex

Daredevil - The Man without Fear!

March's character has been chosen by Incident Report and is Daredevil - The Man without Fear.
Daredevil was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett, with an unspecified amount of input from Jack Kirby and first appeared in Daredevil #1 (April 1964).
Living in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, Matt Murdock is blinded by a radioactive substance that falls from an oncoming vehicle. While he no longer can see, the radioactive exposure heightens his remaining senses beyond normal human ability.
His father, a boxer named Jack Murdock, supports him as he grows up, though Jack is later killed by gangsters after refusing to throw a fight. After donning a yellow and dark red, and later an all dark red costume, Matt seeks out revenge against his father's killers as the superhero Daredevil, fighting against his many enemies including Bullseye and the Kingpin. Daredevil's nickname is "the Man Without Fear"
Aprils character has been chosen by TinRobot and is 2000ad's mutant Bounty Hunter Johnny Alpha - Strontium Dog.

Mongrol SMUSH!!!!

If you're into your gaming Ste is one half of the Pickford Brothers who have been developing and producing games for over 25 years. Welcome Ste. As Ste's our newest member, he's had the choice for January's character which is  the A.B.C Warriors behemoth Mongrol!

The ABC Warriors were created by Pat Miils and was first published waayyy back in 1979 (god I feel old!)

The A.B.C. Warriors are a team of war robots designed to withstand 'Atomic', 'Bacterial' and 'Chemical' warfare. They were built to take part in the long-running Volgan War. Each robot has a distinctive personality – often one programmed by its human creators – but each is more or less able to act with free will.

The immensely strong Mongrol was originally commander of an ABC paratrooper platoon, and the only survivor (save Zippo) of the disastrous drop into Volgan territory at Vilnus – so disastrous it was nicknamed Zarnhem after Arnhem. Only his head remained undamaged and remained on the battlefield. A scavenger named Lara, daughter of executed robot manufacturers, salvaged his head and built him a new body with other robot parts as an act of defiance against the Volgans. She was caught and executed, and Mongrol was tortured by electricity for information – this inadvertently activated his body and he broke free of his captors.

The torture and Lara's death reduced him to near animal-like behaviour "Mongrol smush!", and he was regarded as a threat by both sides. He was recruited when Hammerstein earned his respect by beating him in hand to hand combat. Mongrol's belief that he would go to heaven and meet his beloved Lara once more became the driving force of the metal ape. After being told by Deadlock that only good robots go to heaven, he became determined to live a hero's life and see his beloved again.

Right enough copy and pasting from Wikipedia!!

February's choice is Bhuna's and he's got for The Amazing, The Spectacular, The Sensational SPIDER-MAN. But this months it's Spider-Man vs ...... The choice Spider-man's villain is down to the artist!

Mean Machine

This month we goin' ta 4 ya bunch of bastitches!

This months character has been chosen by JLF.

Mean "Mean Machine" Angel one of Judge Dredd's greatest adversaries. He is one of the sons of Elmer "Pa" Angel, and as such, is a member of the Angel Gang

When he was young, he was gentle, nice and utterly unlike his viciously criminal family. Pa Angel was not pleased by this, and kidnapped a surgeon from nearby Texas City to operate on him, making him the crazed cyborg he is now. He has a mechanical right arm and a steel dome over his skull with a dial on the front. This dial has four settings; from 1, where he is surly and disagreeable, all the way up to 4, which is when he is fully berserk. His favourite attack is a head-butt with his steel skull. He is not very bright at best and has often been outwitted.
Mean Machine's dial settings are:
  1. Surly
  2. Mean
  3. Vicious
  4. Brutal
On rare occasions, an extremely hard headbutt causes Mean Machine's dial to get stuck on 4½, which causes him to go berserk, unable to stop headbutting anything he comes across.
Next months character has been chosen by Mark1Up and is Marvels psychopathic vigilante.. The Punisher.

Marvelman/Miracleman

First of all, we'd like to welcome a new member to the blog, Buddha Rex who is an old junior school buddy of Bhuna.

As Buddha is new we thought it would be nice for him to choose Octobers character and he chose Marvelman who is now known as Miracleman (it's very complicated.)

I won't bore you with the politics of who owned the rights to the character, because it's very complicated.... but!

The original Marvelman was created by Mike Anglo, and was a basic rip off of DCs Captain Marvel, who was a rip off of Superman.

Marvelman was revamped by the genius that is Alan Moore and was featured in one of the best UK anthology publications called Warrior. If you want to read more about the to-ing and fro-ing of the who owned the character pop of to Wikipedia.

Next months character who has been chosen by JLF is 2000ad's manic headbutter supreme, the one, the only MEAN MACHINE ANGEL
